Malaysia Day is Wednesday 16 September 2026. It marks the 1963 formation of the federation, which makes it a different story from 31 August 1957. That's worth leaning into: save the flags-and-picnic photos for National Day and give this morning its own theme. Many states, one company.
HRD Corp's Circular 2/2026 has applied since 15 June, and training now has to start at least 14 days after grant approval. A 16 September session would have needed its grant locked weeks ago. If it isn't approved, run the morning as a company-paid half day and leave the word "claimable" out of the invite. This is the theme where matching pairs and ordering tasks earn their place.
Steer clear of accent-guessing and costume tasks; they date badly and someone always feels singled out.
Set the default language to Bahasa or English to match the workplace, and turn on translation if the office is mixed.
Chapter 1, in order. Five sentences a human wrote on why Malaysia Day is not National Day, then one matching-pairs task.
Chapter 2, free roam if you're on a campus or in a large HQ. A QR on each department floor, each one carrying a state fact that department adopted for the day. Access codes work if you'd rather not use GPS.
Chapter 3, the debrief. A written answer to "one thing our branch in [state] does that HQ should try." Download the results afterwards. That CSV is more useful than a balloon arch.
Shuffle chapters only if you have many teams in a public mall activation. Most office hunts on Malaysia Day don't need Prevent bunching; switch it on if you're in a busy mall or a convention annex.
Wednesday morning, most people join at once, so count phones rather than headcount. Free covers 25 devices with a watermark. The sizing guide has the tiers. Put the Instant Join QR on the intranet banner the day before, not ten minutes before.
Sabah and Sarawak hold this date closely, in a way some Peninsular offices still treat as optional. If you have East Malaysian colleagues on the call, make sure the tasks aren't Peninsula-only, and ask someone who knows the history to check your matching pairs.
Keep "complete challenges in order" on for chapter 1 so everyone reads the history. Turn it off for chapter 2 if people need to peel away for a call with HQ.
If you want teams to finish at least two of the four state QRs before the debrief unlocks, set a minimum chapter points requirement on chapter 3. Otherwise the debrief fills up with people who scanned one code.
The "show to specific players only" option lets you give East Malaysian staff a bonus task without making a public split of it. Use it sparingly. Items and inventory are more than this hunt needs; save them for story-mode games.
Five pairs is enough. Check every one, and drop any pair that reduces a state to a single cliché (only rainforest, only heat). Include one food pair that's accurate rather than a joke. If you'd like a second pass on the list, email hello@playtours.app.
