US Labor Day 2026 is Monday 7 September. For a lot of companies that is intern last week, or intern last-week-adjacent, plus a half-empty office.
1 May is Labour Day in Malaysia, Singapore, and much of Europe. This piece is the US Monday in September.
The useful version is one hunt that treats the intern class as a cohort that is about to dissolve, then food.
Interns already know how to stand in a park with a paper plate. What they often do not get is a structured hour with the people they sat next to for ten weeks, on phones that do not need a new app. Full-timers can join the same QR. BYOD. If IT has questions, send the IT article.
Keep it to 75–90 minutes. Then food. If you make it three hours, the ones with flights on Tuesday will disappear at task 4.
Complete challenges in order on. This is a send-off, not a festival. You want a beginning and an end.
Chapter 1: ice. no-answer “find the intern who started the same week as you and did a different rotation.” image of the worst coffee machine.
Chapter 2: the building or the campus lawn. Mix qrbarcode on a mentor’s door (ask the mentor) and judged-image-ai for “a thing you shipped, even if it is a slide.”
Chapter 3: judged-text debrief. One prompt. “What should next summer’s intern class get that you did not?” Facilitators can read these later. Keep them off a public newsfeed.
Hide next challenge on chapter 3 so nobody skips the paragraph because the leaderboard is more fun.
Clans if you want intern vs full-time scored separately. Friendly leaderboard if you would rather not rank a quiet intern in public.
Session time limit. It cannot be paused. If a VP toast runs long, stop the session from the facilitator dashboard. Put lunch at 12:30 on the calendar.
Instant Join QR on the all-hands slide at 10:00. If they have to hunt for the QR, the hour is already late.
Forty interns plus twenty mentors, one phone each, all at once: 60 concurrent. That is the USD 79 plan, or 120 if RSVPs are soft. Free 25-device watermarked plan is for a tiny office. Headcount vs concurrent.
Summer 2026 intern programmes were already short in a lot of tech and finance offices. Do not assume they know the building. Direction tasks help. Tight GPS in a glass atrium often does not. See patchy signal.
Skip jokes about unpaid overtime. Skip photographing badges. Skip required TikTok. Make it skippable for someone who has a family barbecue, and say that in the invite. If you want a wider note on this, we have making mandatory fun less painful.
pyts.link/qr/...Automatic hints: after 3 minutes or after 2 wrong tries on the QR tasks. Interns will stand in the corridor before they email you.
Credits to buy clues are optional. I would skip them for a send-off.
Points: 5 each is the builder default. Make the debrief 15 so they do it.
Download results. The judged-text column is the artefact L&D will still care about in October. Read those answers privately unless the intern is happy to share them.
QuickBuild will draft this in ten minutes. Then add the debrief task by hand. The AI builder will not know your coffee machine.
If you want a sanity check, email hello@playtours.app the floor map and the intern count. Subject line “Labor Day intern hunt” helps us find it.
