PlayTours Guide: How to Let Players Decide When to Complete a Chapter

Thinzar Su

Sometimes, you want players to explore freely,  completing as many challenges as they like before deciding when to move forward. Instead of forcing strict chapter progression, PlayTours scavenger hunt app lets you create a self-paced game flow, where players advance only when they choose to.

This is especially useful for:

  • Corporate scavenger hunts & team-building games
  • Campus or orientation challenges
  • Museum / city exploration hunts
  • Gamified training or onboarding quests

With PlayTours, you can set up a self-guided chapter flow where players do as many tasks as they want, then manually choose to continue.

What This Feature Does

Instead of automatically jumping to the next chapter, players can:

  • Complete tasks in any order
  • Finish as many as they like
  • Move to the next chapter only when they decide

This gives participants a more open-world, choose-your-path experience, while still keeping structure.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1 - Create a special “Next Chapter” task

Add a new task (recommended: No Answer type).

This task acts as the “Continue” button.

Step 2 -  Mark it as required to complete the chapter

In the task settings:

Access & Visibility → Must be completed to complete this chapter → Enable

This ensures players only move forward when they trigger it.

Step 3 - Name the task clearly

Name the task accordingly, informing users to only click “Mark as complete” if they want to move to the next chapter.

And include a short note like:

Click  “Mark As Complete” to move to the next chapter.

Tips for Best Player Experience

  • Place this task at the top or bottom of the task list so players can easily find it.
  • If you have minimum points required for the chapter, players must still meet that score before advancing — even if they press the “Move On” task.
