A Venture Capital (VC) used PlayTours as part of their yearly retreat

The Opportunity

The VC wanted an engaging scavenger hunt to bond their employees and create a fun and interactive team-building experience. The scavenger hunt was designed to encourage collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills while also providing an opportunity for employees to get to know each other better.

Given the current economic climate, the VC sought to reduce costs. Hiring a team-building facilitator, purchasing physical resources, and printing puzzles were not feasible. Therefore, they chose PlayTours to run their own scavenger hunt.

The rollout

Only a QR-code away

Players were able to access PlayTours without needing to download anything from the Apple or Android app stores. All they needed was a QR code that allowed them to start right away.

Training through gaming

Before starting our scavenger hunt, we implemented a tutorial in the form of a game to make sure everyone was comfortable with the application. This way, everyone had a chance to get familiar with it before jumping into the activity!

Helping teams when needed

PlayTours is designed to help teams out when needed. If teams answer incorrectly or take too long, clues will be provided to help them. Teams can purchase additional clues with coins given at the start of the game. If all else fails, teams can skip the task without getting stuck and frustrated, so there's no need for a facilitator to be present at all times.

Safety first!

The facilitators have access to a map that shows the teams' locations so that everyone can stay on the game's physical premises and no one gets lost. This will also help the facilitator to check up on teams who may have been stuck for too long.

Getting everyone back

Once the game is over, facilitators can make announcements on the app that will be displayed prominently on the game screen and make sure that players see them. Additionally, they can disable the game session to prevent any further submissions and prompt players to return quickly.

Conclusion

The scavenger hunt was a huge success! Everyone had a great time working together as a team to complete the challenging and engaging activities. They were also happy to be able to reduce the cost of team building and make this a more frequent activity.
